We believe in Ubuntu Education Fund’s mission to provide world-class health and educational support to orphaned and vulnerable children living in the townships of Port Elizabeth, South Africa, ensuring access to higher education and employment. It’s not about how many children we reach, but how deeply we reach each child.

To support Ubuntu’s services, we have decided to run the ING New York City Marathon this November to fundraise for the organization’s Early Childhood Development Program (ECD).

About Ubuntu's Early Childhood Development Program:

In February 2012, Ubuntu launched Positive Start, the first ECD program in Port Elizabeth’s townships. Positive Start extends Ubuntu’s education to a new and important group – toddlers. Research shows that the early years are crucial in children’s development, and now 43 eager toddlers get world-class services from a highly trained staff: services that range from an international literacy curriculum to time in the sun growing vegetables. Their family members are involved in every step. Ubuntu provides bus rides to school, visits to the doctor, and a lot of fun.

How Your Donation Helps:

For $100, you can send a child to class with school supplies, a uniform, and a backpack for the first time in her life.

For $500, you can buy children furniture and classroom supplies, creating a safe place for them to study and play.

For $2,500, you can give a full class of children access to Ubuntu’s nutrition program, an initiative that feeds healthy breakfasts and lunches to children who might not otherwise get enough to eat.

For $5,000, you can support not just a child’s education, but also his medical and psychosocial care at Ubuntu’s state-of-the-art pediatric clinic.

For $10,000, you can build a brand new playground and garden, providing a safe and beautiful place for Ubuntu’s children to play, learn and grow.

For $15,000, you can cover an ECD teacher’s training and salary. Ubuntu hires all of its educators from the community, empowering the townships to be at the center of their own development.
