A team to help the DOWN THE LINE AND BEYOND FOUNDATION and SALVATION ARMY build tennis courts for inner city youth in Philadelphia
The mission of DTLB is to facilitate positive character and tennis development for Philadelphia-area underserved youth and talented youth tennis players in order to maximize each child's full potential on and off the court and to cultivate the next generation of leadership.
Our young players (we currently serve over 800 youngsters) learn not only the fundamentals of tennis, but also how to compete against each other and how to work together. From developing agility and coordination drills to learning how to hit groundstrokes and volleys, the young players work hard each and every practice. Currently DTLB operates eight tennis programs annually, and starting in 2016, will run tennis programs at every Salvation Army in Philadelphia.
In addition to its outreach programs, DLTB provides character education workshops, opportunities to engage in community service projects, and many scholarship opportunities to a group of approximately 20 “Junior Ambassadors.” Aged 10 to 17, Junior Ambassadors are committed tennis players. The Junior Ambassador program offers these young players the chance to develop their leadership skills and help their communities in the company of other youngsters interested in tennis.
