The Homeless Animal Adoption League, Inc. (HAAL) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, no-kill, animal welfare organization that works exclusively with felines to fulfill our mission of saving lives one cat at a time. We do not receive any state or federal funds, so all of our work is done through the donations we receive from our generous supporters. We are a 100% volunteer-only organization and 100% of all donations go directly toward the care of our cats.

HAAL was originally formed as the East Orange Animal League (EOAL) in 1989 by citizens concerned about the conditions in the East Orange Pound. In 1995 the EOAL was incorporated as the Homeless Animal Adoption League, Inc. When the East Orange Pound closed, HAAL set up what was meant to be a temporary residence in Bloomfield, NJ - which turned into a 17+ year residency for homeless, abandoned, and abused cats.

We have been fortunate enough in 2016 to have acquired a building in Clifton, NJ which was graciously donated to us so that HAAL will always have a permanent location without fear of landlord changes, rent hikes, or eviction. We can now be sure that any cats coming in our doors will always have a permanent home.

With this amazing news comes our plea for assistance. Although we have the physical structure of a new building there is so much work to be done. The building we have acquired was originally a bar that had essentially been abandoned, and there is a ton of work that needs to be done in order to turn the building into a safe and habitable place. We will need to hire contractors, electricians, plumbers, masons, HVAC tech, and possibly many more licensed and insured companies to help get us up and running.

A new location means a change in size and structure which also results in a need to update our current supplies and equipment. We are fortunate to be able to have quarantine units, a separate office, new laundry room, and a brand new layout. We need to purchase new cages (or as we like to call them, habitats), medical exam tables, safety supplies, food storage units, refrigerators for medications, washer/dryer, generators in case of a power outage - if you can think of it we could probably use it. On top of these items we still need to purchase our typical daily supplies of medication, litter, food, and all necessities to keep our cats in top condition.

We started this crowdfunding to raise a minimum of $250,000, which may not be enough to fix everything and buy all the supplies we need, but it will help us make a huge difference in the lives of countless cats that will walk through our doors in the decades to come. We greatly appreciate your generosity and dedication to helping us on our mission.

All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent f the law. If you’d like to become a volunteer, or could assist with donating items or services please contact us or through our website:
