April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Join Clay House Children's Center in bringing awareness to the community. Help us help the children!
Join us on Saturday, April 26, 2014 in the Crusade for the Cut-Off by taking a step to stop abuse. The walk will begin at Historical DeBardeleben Park in Downtown Bessemer. Create your team and challenge your friends and co workers to join your team or create their own. The Clay House Children's Center works with the District Attorney, Law Enforcement agencies, Department of Human Resources and medical personnel to ensure that the system developed to protect child abuse victims does not re-victimize the child. This mulit-discplinary team approach helps prosecute more child abusers, and advocates for the child victim and the non offending caregivers.
Child sexual abuse is 75 times more common than pediatric cancer* & 167 times more common than autism** in children.
90% of child victims know their offender, with almost half of the offenders being a family member. Of sexual assaults against people age 12 and up, approximately 80% of the victims know the offender.***
