What is Team Indraloka?

Phase I - Days 1-45

  • Together, we recruit 1,008 people who love animals and want to change the world.
  • Each of us will commit to raise $108 for Indraloka in 45 days, and some of us might choose the stretch goal of raising $1,008 for Indraloka.

How will we raise it? It is easy! Just click on the button to the right that says "join team- fundraise". It only takes a few minutes to set up your free personal page on Razoo. Then post it on your Facebook, Twitter, and other pages, asking people to donate and share. Remember, every share raises an average of $18 to save the lives of farm animals!

More Easy and Creative Ways to Raise $108

  • Ask family and friends that care about animals
  • Hold a fundraising party and ask every guest to pitch in
  • Have a car wash (using environmentally friendly soap that does not test on animals :-) )
  • Sell vegetables from your garden
  • Make something pretty, special or unique and sell it for donations
  • Organize a group hike with a healthy picnic afterwards, ask every to contribute a dish and a few bucks for the cause

Let's be inventive and have fun with this! We can make a huge difference if we all just do a little bit!

Phase II - days 46 - 90: Phase II is our stretch goal, and this is really where we make it possible to save more animals than ever!

  • In Phase II, we recruit another 108 team members. Some of the first 108 might have so much fun and feel so good about it that they sign up again!
  • Just as we did in Phase I, all 108 of us commit to raise just $108 each, this time in 44 days, and again, some might choose the stretch goal of raising $1,008 for Indraloka.

What will Indraloka do with the money we raise?

Indraloka’s animal care and pasture facilities are not ready for the increased demand for animal rescue and programs. Not only do they need to build new facilities, but after enduring an extremely harsh winter, they need to make crucial repairs to the damage the sanctuary suffered.

Indraloka needs your help to rebuild, repair and expand. They cannot rescue more animals without help from the global community of animal lovers.

The good news is that if we each do just a little bit, the lives of hundreds of animals, or even thousands- given the changed minds and hearts of those who visit us can be saved!

Improve and Expand

After Phase I, (when 1,008 team members each raise $108 = $108,864), here are some examples of how Indraloka might use these funds:

  • Re-wire electrical systems for safety and efficiency $24,247
  • Winterizing outdoor watering systems for all pastures $26,000
  • Replace horse and cow housing (4 large sheds) $28,000
  • Make necessary repairs to existing fencing $14,000
  • Labor and installation for all of the above $16,617

Make it Sustainable

After Phase II (when 1,008 team members each raise an additional $108 = $108,864), here are some examples of how Indraloka might use these funds:

  • Fence in additional pastures and install animal housing in each $30,000
  • Expand sheep and pig housing $7,000
  • Replace upper barn ceiling $7,500
  • Purchase a composter so we can sell compost, which will generate revenue for the sanctuary $10,000
  • Install rainwater collection systems to save costs and water! $7,000
  • Build a green house and plant orchards to more easily provide fresh, organic vegetables and fruit for the animals year-round $10,000
  • Install alternative energy - solar and wind power to protect the earth, reduce overhead, and provide a working educational model for visiting school groups $19,358
  • Labor and installation for all of the above $18,006

Get your friends involved!

Recruit others to join the team! In addition to the joy of knowing you have made a difference in saving countless lives, you will receive a special gift for each person you recruit:

  • 1 person – Personal thank you from Eddie Traffic on our Facebook page and yours
  • 9 people – Free group visit to the sanctuary for up to 10 people OR free 30 minute animal communication consultation via Skype
  • 18 people – Free professional photo shoot of you with Indraloka animals OR 3 framed professional photos of the Indraloka animals of your choice
  • 36 people – Sunset picnic with Penny the Cow OR 9 framed professional photos of the Indraloka animals of your choice

Why I Created Team Indraloka

This past January, I came across a heartwarming story about a pig who took a “leap of faith” off a slaughter-bound truck and landed in heaven.

The article named Indraloka Animal Sanctuary as the rescue who offered to take the pig in—the word Indraloka means heaven. I soon learned that this pig had been given the name “Eddie Traffic”. He is an individual, with a personality, who shares the same feelings and emotions as each one of us.

Eddie Traffic now experiences something every animal should; a life filled with love, room to run, a comfy place to rest, a place to scratch, and much love.

It was then that I realized how much of an impact Indraloka truly made on farm animals-- who are most often overlooked as sentient beings and viewed strictly as commodities.

I was excited to visit Indraloka as soon as the weather broke (it was a very, very long winter!), and my first trip there was very special. The sun was shining and I immediately felt at peace. While walking amongst the turkeys, chickens, pigs, cows, horses, cats, sheep, ducks, geese, goats, and peafowl, I witnessed them frolicking in the pasture in the company of their very best friends. Humans were no longer a threat, and they slept knowing they were safe (sometimes even in the middle of the drive!).

Indraloka is not only a place for animals to feel solace, but humans as well. We can truly connect with nature and witness firsthand the different personalities and emotions of each animal; many of who gave a look as if saying “thank you”.

I believe Indraloka is special in that it is mutually beneficial; when humans spend time with animals they can learn, practice and teach compassion and the animals can learn to trust humans and experience the joy of nesting, eating fresh fruits and vegetables, and most importantly, basking in the sunshine while getting a belly rub!

I don’t believe many places in the world can evoke the same feeling of contentment as Indraloka can. For the animals that might someday take “leap of faith”, I know, and you too should know, that Indraloka will be there to catch them.

I always hear people say, “If I ever win the lottery I am going to start a sanctuary.” Well, Indra didn’t win the lottery, and she wasn’t a rich woman. The need for a farm animal sanctuary was urgent, so in 2005, she started Indraloka Sanctuary on her own property, with her own money.

In the nine years since, she has rescued and cared for more than 600 animals through their natural lifespans and provided educational programs to over 1,000 children and 500 adults.

Indra remains the primary caretaker of the sanctuary’s 177 animals, with the help of a small team of dedicated volunteers, while working hard at her own business in order to be the sanctuary’s primary funder as well.

Meanwhile, the word about Indraloka has gotten out-- excellent animal care, calming once-terrorized animals, beautiful photos, films, and stories about animals, and magical education programs—all have created quite a buzz. As a result, they are flooded with requests for animal rescue, educational programs, and retreat options. But their growth has outpaced our aging structures, which are badly in need of upgrading.

Our world—and the animals--need this sanctuary to grow, and it will take more than Indra and a few volunteers to make that happen. The animals need all of us. So, I decided to start Team Indraloka, where 1,008 caring individuals like you and me will change the world. How? By each of us raising just $108 for Indraloka.
