In September 2012, over 500 people walked together from downtown Saugus to World Series Park for The Dave Webster/TargetCancer Community for a Cure, a day of festivities held in memory of Saugus resident Dave Webster that raised over $27,000 for TargetCancer.

This year, on Saturday, September 20, TargetCancer will proudly return to Saugus for Target the Darkness, an event to raise awareness and urgently needed funds for rare cancer research. This family-oriented event will once again unite the Saugus community at World Series Park around the cause of rare cancers with a relay walk, live entertainment, and much more.

By supporting Target the Darkness, you can help TargetCancer raise as much as possible on September 20th! Best of all, the funds raised will be put to use almost immediately in support of TargetCancer's rare cancer research efforts.

So far in 2014, TargetCancer has provided $150,000 in rare cancer research grant funding, directly supporting promising young researchers who are making a difference in cholangiocarcoma, esophageal cancer, and other areas. In fact, research funded by TargetCancer has directly informed the development of clinical trials opening soon for cholangiocarcinoma, a rare cancer that has no treatment.

We need to keep this momentum moving, translating research findings into approved treatments for rare cancers. Most importantly, discoveries made in rare cancer research have the potential to make a major impact on research for all cancers.
