Safe Harbor Shelter Renovation Project:

Safe Harbor Shelter, located just behind SFO, was created to provide short-term emergency housing for the Bay Area’s most vulnerable community members. Safe Harbor’s goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment where residents can focus on building a brighter future.

This facility houses 90 men and women with a waitlist of nearly 100 individuals every night. With 32,194 bed nights just last year alone, the converted warehouse sorely needs HIF’s help. HIF will use the funds raised through SV Gives, the annual one-day giving event, for much-needed renovations that are vital to keeping the facility safe and dignified for the individuals who temporarily call this shelter home.

Using volunteers and in-kind donations from the apartment industry, HIF will leverage every $1 donated into at least $2 of repairs and upgrades. HIF plans to complete the following renovations for the facility:

  • New Interior & Exterior Paint $13,000
  • Improved storage in the common areas $7,360
  • New furniture for common areas $13,300
  • Landscaping and Fencing $8,600
  • New Interior & Exterior Signage $1,150
  • Installation of bike racks $1,600
  • New Flooring (Bathroom & Kitchen) $4,800
  • Improved residents’ laundry facilities $2,350
  • New Kitchenette Area $3,275

The fundraiser page that raises over $5,000 will win a free table to the 2015 Summit Dinner!
