Researchers have shown that oral health is closely linked to overall systemic health. However, in resource-poor countries like Haiti, over 80% of the population will never visit a dentist, although rates of cavities and dental infections are very high. Therefore, For Hope International is partnering with existing programs in Haiti to meet these needs in two local communities that can often be addressed with one-time interventions through the Smile Restoration Project.

This summer, a team of volunteers from the NYU College of Dentistry and other For Hope International volunteers will head to Haiti from August 6, 2014 to August 10, 2014 to provide specialized care focused on pediatric dental care including: cleanings, fluroide treatments, sealants, and oral hygiene education to over 200 children living in orphanages, as a means to improve their dental and overall health. The team will also spend time in strengthening the organization's relationship with the local dental school through collaborative volunteering efforts, special lectures, and the sharing of resources.

All trip logistic costs have been underwritten by Greystone & Co. Our hope is to raise funds to enhance exisiting programs at the orphanages we visit and strengthen dental programs at the local dental school. Your support will help to cover the cost of equipment, dental service materials, oral hygiene educational props and material, educational resources to the orphanages and the local dental school.

Thank you so much for our consideration and interest!
