The Mission

Success for Kids, Inc. (SFK) is dedicated to empowering at-risk children and adolescents to become resilient, productive citizens. By delivering innovative research-based programs that enhance interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, problem solving skills and self-sufficiency, SFK gives students a greater sense of purpose in their lives. With a dedicated staff of more than 100, SFK is the largest international social emotional learning organization in the world. Since its inception in 2001, SFK has provided more than $25 million in programmatic support impacting more than 60,000 children and adolescents. SFK is a 501(c) (3), tax-exempt organization.

The mission of SFK is to build life skills that promote social and emotional development in every child. We teach children the tools to empower them to meet life's challenges, thereby helping them reach their full potential. We teach children be more responsible by making decisions that reflect care for themselves, others, and the world in which they are a part. SFK gives children an awareness of themselves, of others, and of the interconnectedness of all things so that they become caring, successful, and effective individuals.

The Marathon

The Santa Clarita Marathon, which is an official qualifying race for the Boston Marathon, will test the physical boundaries of the human body on Sunday, November 6, 2011 . The day will include a full marathon, a half marathon, a 5K Run and a Kid K run. All races will begin at 7:00 a.m., with the exception of the Kid K, which will begin at 8:30 a.m.

This year the Santa Clarita Marathon Race Committee will be using the newly open trails along the San Francisquito Creek to be part of the 2011 Half Marathon and Marathon. The new trail system will be used for the majority of the race and will reduce the amount of street closure on McBean Parkway.

To kick off the marathon and get in the racing spirit, the City will host a pre-race Health and Fitness Expo for everyone to enjoy on Saturday, November 5, 2011. The free Expo will be held at the Hyatt Valencia from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and will feature dozens of health-related vendors and information booths. Here, runners may sign up for events and race participants can pick up race bibs and T-shirts.
