Overview: Gary Schmidt’s family, together with the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, invite you to join us in Rise for a Cure, the Inaugural Gary Schmidt Memorial Walk/Run/Ride to End Lung Cancer.

This event is in honor and memory of Gary Schmidt. Gary Schmidt was the best kind of man. He loved his family deeply. He lived his life passionately. He impacted his colleagues with his work ethic and inte...grity. He was devoted, courageous and full of a spirit that will never be replaced. We miss him, and we lost him too soon.

This event is for him. It’s for anyone who’s had lung cancer, or has lung cancer. It’s for the family members who’ve lost someone, or are currently caring for someone who’s sick. It’s for hope. It’s for a future where lives are not lost because of cancer.

Description: The event will consist of a 6.2km walk/run and a 62km bike ride. Depending on your preference you can choose to participate in either one! It is also possible to walk/run/ride a shorter distance. After the event lunch will be served.

Donation goal: We ask that all participants who walk, run or ride raise a minimum of $620. But don’t stop there! We hope some will raise $1,620, or perhaps even $6,200. For businesses, there are also sponsorship opportunities (please contact Dawn Schmidt Brookshire at db.creative@hotmail.com for more details).

The significance of the number 62: Gary Schmidt passed away of lung cancer November 9, 2012. This year, on October 9th, Gary would have turned 62. In his honor and memory we are holding the event a few days after his 62nd birthday.
