Ride Across Florida is a 3 day, 250+ mile bike ride that will take place January 22nd thru 24th to raise awareness and funds to benefit On The Ground’s Project Chiapas. Project Chiapas was started in Chiapas, Mexico to fund water systems using technology appropriate for each community. Our goal for this event is to raise $26,700 for the current project in Matias Castellano, Chiapas, Mexico.

To learn more about Project Chiapas go to www.onthegroundglobal.com.

Ride Across Florida is an individual or a team event/ride that will take place January 22nd thru 24th. We will be riding for 3 days and completing 250+ miles starting at the Florida State Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida and ending at the Daytona Beach Boardwalk. Participants can enter as an individual or as a team and are asked to raise money for the project. See below for donation goals. This event is all about fun, adventure, and camaraderie, it is not a race. There will be a gathering at the end of the ride in Daytona Beach to celebrate!

There is no registration fee to participate. Although, we are asking that each individual rider or team of riders solicit pledges from family and friends to support Project Chiapas.

  • Individual – minimum donation of $100 with a goal of $1000.

  • 3 person team – min. of $250 with a goal of $2500.

  • 4+ person team – min. of $300 with a goal of $3000.

Ride Across Florida will take place Friday, January 22nd thru Sunday, January 24th.

There will be limited edition bidons (water bottles) available for purchase.

Each day will consist of a start time and an end location, where there will be lodging and camping available.

Day 1- State Capitol, Tallahassee, FL to Cross City, FL, 102 miles

Day 2- Cross City,FL to Palatka,FL 96.5 miles

Day 3- Palatka,FL to Daytona Beach Boardwalk 68.6 miles

You can choose to do whatever mileage you would like, but remember all support and pick up is on you. We do ask that the minimum donation is raised regardless of length of ride.

Each rider or team will be responsible for themselves and their equipment! Have someone be your SAG support with whatever extras you may need for a 3 day ride. Be prepared, nothing will be provided for you. At the end of each day’s ride, there will lodging or camping available nearby. We will provide you with options for sleep but it is up to you to make your own arrangements.

ABOUT Matias Castellano, Chiapas!

Matias Castellano is a community of 83 families that must support itself through small family farm plots. They are located in the temperate zone, surrounded by pine forests, and must walk well outside of their village to gather water for themselves and for their crops and livestock from acontaminated well.

This water project is going to use an electric pump to pump water from a spring nearly 2km away from their village and feed it through pipelines into reservoir tanks located within the village. The project completion is estimated at around 8 months. This project will allow this community and many others to have clean water for drinking and sustainable living. With this project, a village water committee will be trained on how to maintain the system and be a local resource of support for other water systems.

The Chiapas Water Project was founded in 2005 to fund water systems. All funds raised go directly to material costs for the water projects in Mayan communities struggling for indigenous rights. On The Ground's purpose is to support sustainable community development in farming regions across the world.

Alright guys, it's time to get going! Start talking to people, get the word out! I sent out an email to some family and friends around noon and already got a $20 donation! Thats how easy it is! Set up your "thank you" message so you don't have to send an email thanking each person individually!
