My sister and I were moved by the RiceBucketChallenge started by Ms Manju Latha Kalanidhi in Hyderabad, India.
Simple and effective way to help those in need. In Vedas, Anna Dana (gift of food) is the most highly regarded form of charity (Annadānam Samam Dānam Trilokeshu Na Vidhathe).
Food sustains all living beings. In Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism, donating food is highly encouraged.
We live in the USA and it was not practical to do the RiceBucketChallenge the way Ms Manju envisioned. We decided to give it a twist and make it universal.
All contributions go to Akshaya Patra USA Foundation:
Akshaya Patra in Sanskrit means "vessel that delivers unlimited quantity". The organization provided mid-day school lunches to 1.4 million school children from 10,661 schools all across India.
