Representation through Improvisation: TONYC is raising $10,000 to support the Legislative Theatre Festival.

A $10 donation to one of our Catalysts will guarantee that your voice is heard at Theatre of the Oppressed NYC’s 3rd annual Legislative Theatre Festival this June. The Festival brings citizens, advocates and elected officials together in creative dialogue to spark concrete socio-political impact.

TONYC actors create and perform plays about human rights issues, and the audience debates, intervenes onstage and discusses policy changes. Actors and audience then submit their ideas to advocates and legislators, and vote on legislative proposals which city council members agree to carry forward. This is how democracy gets exciting.

The Festival is free for all New Yorkers to attend, but it’s not free to produce. It takes Metrocards, rehearsal space, marketing and PR, and much more to pull off a successful and activating event.

In 2014, friends and supporters came together as Catalysts to raise $10,587 in the Represent! Campaign, to make the festival a reality. This year, we’re aiming to bring even more citizens together and push the policy proposals farther, with your support.
