It is an exciting time at the Poverty Initiative as we prepare and train for our THIRD Walk/Run & Children's race to raise funds for Poverty Initiative's programming in the upcoming year! Team END POVERTY is a collective of Poverty Scholars, Poverty Initiative staff, Union Theological Seminary students, and PI kids with a goal to raise $20,000 for the Poverty Scholars Program and Fellows Program. Many have joined in from outside NYC and will be running marathons in New Jersey, Triathalons in Pennsylvania, and more. Cheer us on!

Sponsor Team END POVERTY by donating today. Your donation of $50, $100, $250, or more, will help sustain the Poverty Scholars and Fellows Programs into the coming years.

The Poverty Initiative’s Poverty Scholars Program is a leadership development and training program for 250 low-income, church and community leaders from over 45 organizations nationwide. The Program enlists leading grassroots organizers—or Poverty Scholars—with proven success winning campaigns. Beyond strengthening the skills of men, women and youth, veteran and emerging organizers, the Program serves as a network for ongoing exchange, study, and joint activity. The Program unites existing efforts across lines of race, religion, geography, and issue-specific campaigns into a modern, reignited Poor People’s Campaign to end poverty.

The Poverty Initiative Fellows Program graduated its inaugural class in May 2011 and welcomed a new class of six Masters-level Fellows this fall. The Poverty Initiative Fellows Program provides yearlong, rigorous theological, theoretical and practical community organizing training. Using a unique, hands-on methodology to build the capacity of emerging religiousleaders the program moves beyond charity toward an engaged social justice practice. Central to the Fellows Program is its close partnership with our Poverty Scholars Program: Fellows study, work and worship alongside these community leaders and their organizations struggling on the front lines of the movement to end poverty.
