MUSEUM THING, What is it?
A three day music festival kicking off the The Main Street Museum's Fall Crowd-Sourced Fundraiser which runs from October 8th, until the 8th of November, 2015.
Its three days of music, film, song, talent, lectures, readings and food! Yummy Food (elegant dinners held in the Museum every Friday in October!) Its in October, because October is the Best Month!
MUSEUM THING, Where is it?
Its in Down Town White River Junction Vermont at the Main Street Museum, 58 Bridge Street.
MUSEUM THING, Why is it?
Because participation adds to community and enables Full Participation in our culture. Because we are unique. Because we do things that you won’t find anywhere else! Because we have things that you won’t find anywhere else! We have: an Ancestor Skull from the Tribal Asmat. A Piece of the Alamo. A Passenger Pigeon. Relics from the U.S. Civil War. A Mapuche Cintillo, or Headband from the Andes. Elvis’s Gallstones. Good Luck Charms and Evil Eyes. A Reading Room, and a Sheet Music Collection and over 8,700 antique 78rpm records from around the world. Because doing what we do takes money. How much money? not a lot of money.
We are better at things than most organizations, so we can do things with less “fuss and feathers” But we do need to raise $45,000, collected in a three-stage initiatve, to fund a staff position. Why? Because for the past twenty-two years we have spent $0 on staff. And thats not fair or healthy. For any of us. In fact, unless we hire a professional administrator, we will have to curtail our public events. Events that mean so much to you—to all of us.
We are the only place that a lot of people, particular young people can go for truly fun, inspiring, understanding, creative home! But… we want to do even more. More events, more art, more history, more film, more music, more teaching opportunities, more lectures. We want to be open! not closed!
MUSEUM THING! This Friday, Saturday & Sunday–Oct 9, 10, 11
