The Need: Africa Needs Energy

  • 1.4 billion people worldwide live without electricity.
  • In sub-Saharan Africa alone, 585 million rural people do not have access to energy.
  • 30% of the average African household’s monthly income is spent on candles and kerosene lamps.
  • Most vaccines need to be refrigerated. Without energy for refrigeration, children cannot receive vaccines when they are young.
  • 2.2 million children die each year because they are not vaccinated.

A SOLUTION: Israel is a Pioneer in Solar Energy

  • Israel is a world leader in solar energy technology, and its solar companies work on projects around the globe.
  • Israel’s abundant sun – a natural resource Israel shares with Africa – has made the country a natural location for the use and development of solar technology.
  • Israeli innovation and research has advanced solar technology to a degree that it’s almost cost-competitive with fossil fuels.

Bringing Sustainable Israeli Technologies To Africa

Since its founding in 2008, Jewish Heart for Africa (, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that brings sustainable Israeli technologies to African villages, has completed 47 solar and agricultural projects, impacting over 200,000 African people in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Malawi and Uganda. As a result of Jewish Heart for Africa’s work, more than 100,000 children have received lifesaving vaccines stored in solar powered refrigerators.

Support our school in the Nationwide College Campaign

Together with Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life, the Jewish Agency for Israel has a network of 50 Israel Fellows, young Israelis who are based on college campuses throughout North America to share Israel and Israeli culture with the broader campus community.

The Israel Fellows program is partnering with Jewish Heart for Africa to spearhead a nationwide campaign on North American college campuses to power a medical clinic in Africa.

Help Us Power An African Medical Clinic

Help us meet our nationwide target of $10,000, providing an African medical clinic with:

  • Solar refrigerators to store vaccines that protect local children from preventable diseases such as tuberculosis, yellow fever and measles.
  • Light for nighttime medical care. Kerosene lamps are both unsafe and unsanitary, and many African people cannot afford them. We will replace kerosene lamps with 11 Watt energy saver light bulbs and provide security lighting outside the facility, which allows patients to reach the facility at all hours of the night.

100% of donations raised in this campaign will be spent directly on project costs.

Our school has a goal of $500. Help us reach our goal and join in the nationwide campus campaign. Thank you for your support!
