Maine School Garden Network
A team for MAINE SCHOOL GARDEN NETWORK
A team to help the Maine School Garden Network reach their year-end goals!
130 schools in Maine have a school garden that we know of out of the 737 in the state, meaning about 18%. We at the Maine School Garden Network are enthusiastic about getting new gardens going in schools to increase that percentage, helping beginning gardens access resources and support, and building on thriving school gardens to further connections to school food service and classrooms. Our mission is to promote and support educational gardens for youth, and encourages school programs that teach healthy eating and environmental stewardship. Our well-connected board includes members from the Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry; Maine Agriculture in the Classroom; Cooperative Extension, Re-TreeUs, Wolfe’s Neck Farm, Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association, and FoodCorps, as well as retired teachers and garden leaders. Each member is dedicated to this mission and strives to build this growing Network year after year.
