To Rebuild and Renew
A team for Intervarsity Christian Fellowship
"To Rebuild and Renew" a team fundraiser to help InterVarsity mobilize a team of students in rebuilding and renewing New Orleans, LA.
Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, LA on August 29, 2005 causing the destruction of the city levee system. This resulted in the city and surrounding parishes to be completely engulfed with water, flooding about 80% of the city. Government response to relieve and recover the area took days to weeks, resulting in over 1,500 fatalities. This storm was catastrophic for not only the houses and home owners, but also for the morale of the people in New Orleans. It has been over 5 years since the storm hit, and there is still much work to be done.
Churches and non-profit organizations from all around the nation have been going in to help rebuild and renew New Orleans, LA. Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) has an opportunity during our spring break (3/4-3/24) to be an agent in these efforts. InterVarsity Christian Fellowship has gathered a team of students from MCPHS to go down and serve the people of New Orleans by partnering with organizations like Habitat for Humanity and the Hancock Building Project. We will be serving the community through rebuilding houses in areas that have still yet to be restored. Our vision for this trip is to not only to serve the people of New Orleans, but also to share this experience with our campus. We hope that our stories and time spent on this trip will help bring a light to our campus, to give our friends perspective on a world outside of health sciences.
