Jumpstart’s mission is to ensure that every child in America enters kindergarten prepared to succeed. Every year, Jumpstart recruits and trains thousands of college students and community volunteers, called Corps members, to work with preschool children in low-income neighborhoods. Throughout the school year, Corps members serve in the classroom each week, implementing Jumpstart’s proven curriculum to develop the language, literacy, and social skills these young children will need to succeed in kindergarten and beyond.

This year, Jumpstart DC’s Corps members will give more than 90,000 hours of service to change the lives of over 800 children in over 40 classrooms across the city. Please join me in supporting their transformative service.

Reflecting on her service, one Corps member said, “Our partner children are superheroes with fantastic values. We taught them kindness and respect, determination, a love of learning, the magical world of books, and much more. The list goes on and on. But something we never really focus on is what our children teach us. My children have taught me to appreciate the little things, find joy and happiness in everything, that imagination is the most powerful tool…and most importantly, according to one of my partner children, matching socks are a must!“
