Homelessness is a huge problem in America, but allowing those who fought and sacrificed for our priviliges to wander the streets is unacceptable. At any point and time 529,000 to 840,000 veterans are chronically homeless. The number of homeless vets from the Vietnan Era, alone, outnumber the soldiers who died during the war. Homelessness is an issue, but when we know that a third of all homeless males are former service members, it becomes an epidemic. They sacrificed so that we could sleep peacefully in our beds. The least we can do is offer them the same opportunity upon return. This is why on April 9th, several teams from across Georgia Tech will be competing in a Joint Forces Liftathon to raise money for our homless brothers and sisters in arms through the Veterans Empowerment Organization (VEO), located here in Atlanta. The Veterans Empowerment Organization of Georgia Provides transitional and permanent housing services for homeless veterans, on-site in southwest Atlanta, as well as counseling and support services. Every day they work to better the lives of veterans in the region, and on Saturday, April 9th, we will be putting our strength on the line to support this organization in their endeavors. So please donate to support an athlete or team of your choice, and we hope to see you at the event all day from 0900 to 1700 at 1530 Carroll Drive Atlanta, GA 30318.
