Next March, the Illinois State University Doctor of Audiology Class of 2015 will be traveling to a remote region of Appalachia to spend their Spring Break providing hearing healthcare at the Red Bird Mission, a Kentucky clinic for impoverished citizens who lack easy access to medical care. Six second-year AuD students along with Dr. Lindsay Bondurant, Director of the Humanitarian Audiology via Telemedicine & Community Health (HATCH) Lab, are donating their time and expertise for this trip, and the HATCH Lab has secured donations for the materials that will be used during the trip. However, transportation costs are prohibitively high; for this reason, we are seeking donations to help minimize the financial burden on the participating students. Additional funds raised will be used to make a donation to the Red Bird Mission to support their other outreach activities, in addition to being set aside to fund similar trips and initiatives in the future.
