This May, IHEID Gender Dialogues is running the Geneva Marathon (5K, 10K, Half, Full and Full-Relay) to support Al-Qaws, the first legally recognized, autonomous Palestinian LGBTQ organization. Their staff are feminist and queer activists fighting for the acceptance of sexual and gender diversity and the guarantee of human rights for all LGBTI people. Specifically, they:

  • Provide counseling and support services for individuals with diverse sexual and gender identities and practices through group and individual counseling & support hotline/Information Line (www.alkhat.org), which is a peer to peer support service operated by a team of volunteers.
  • Provide much needed health information and services to LGBTI individuals in Israel and Palestine.
  • Facilitate community-building activities: Outreach programs, local leadership groups, national activist meetings, and intellectual and cultural events that provide a rare space for creative energies in sexual and gender diversity.
  • Engage civil society by providing professional training to activists so that they have the analytical tools and group facilitation skills to advocate on behalf of people with diverse sexual orientations and gender identities (SOGI).
  • Operate a joint research project on local human rights organizations in the West Bank examining attitudes of social justice activists, human rights activists, and LGBTQs in the West Bank toward the taboo topic of sexual diversity/orientation
  • Maintain a popular music and creative multi-media project, Ghanni A’an Ta’arif / “Singing Sexuality” (www.ghanni.net), engaging youth and students on issues of gender and sexuality diversity, identity, political engagement and society.
