We are a group of women who live on Kibbutz Hannaton in Galilee, Israel, who are participating in the Herziliyah Women's Marathon (in memory of Tamar Duboskin, who was killed in a hit and run biking accident at age 21 in 1996 while training for this triathalon and who volunteered at Kibbutz Hannaton during her army service) in a group and raising money for FSHD, a form of Muscular Dystrophy that one of the adult participants (Haviva Ner-David) and her 11-year-old daughter, (Hallel Ner-David) who is also participating in the triathalon, suffer from.

Hi team. Yesterday was great. Thank you Shira E for organizing and empowering us all to do this. Deciding to do the triathalon also empowered me to raise money for FSHD, as you know, something I have never done before even though I have known I have this disease since I was sixteen years old (I had symptoms from early childhood but did not know what they were from until age 16 when the disease spread to my arms and started to really impact my life, which pushed my parents to take me to doctor after doctor to understand what was going on. Interestingly, although the disease is hereditary, we do not know of anyone else in my family before me who had or has it, so it may have started with me as a mutation actually and is now hereditary from me onwards). Anyway, to my great surprise, we have almost reached the $7,500 goal I set for June 10th. We have raised almost $6,500 already! So I am thinking that it might be a good idea to send some photos to the people who I know who donated to thank them again and to others who did not donate yet to let them know how the experience was and to remind them that there is still time to donate. So if any of you want to do the same, great. Yours in Tri, as Susie says. Blessings, Haviva
