Our team is a HUGE supporter of positive youth development - these kids are our future! With so many pressures, expectations, and negativity in our faces every day, it is important to encourage, empower, and love our youth. We chose to set a goal of each running the Windward Half Marathon on September 8, 2013. Additionally, we've set individual goals of raising $300 each by that date.

All of the proceeds from the registration for the Windward Half Marathon go towards the Hawaii Boys & Girls Club Windward Clubhouse at Kailua Intermediate School. The event has been happening in the community since 1981. The B&G Club Windward Clubhouse operates mostly on donations. It is open all year long before, during, and after school. The Club offers activities, sports, summer camp, homework help, and a safe place to hang out all for the cost of $1/year per child.

The B&G Club Windward Clubhouse is also a supporter of Girls on the Run of Hawaii. They have hosted the program for two seasons now with 15 girls finishing the end-of-season 5K, and many more asking to participate next season!

Girls on the Run® is a life-changing, experiential learning programs for girls in 3rd - 5th grade. Girls on Track is the sister curriculum targeting girls in 6th - 8th grade. The programs combine training for a 3.1 mile running event with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting workouts. The goals of the programs are to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical development.

The objective of Girls on the Run® is to educate and empower girls at an early age in order to prevent the display of at-risk activities in the future. At risk activities include substance/alcohol use, eating disorders, early onset of sexual activity, sedentary lifestyle, depression, suicide attempts and confrontations with the juvenile justice system.
