Friends of WHWC's HIV Support Group
A team for THE WRIGHT HOUSE WELLNESS CENTER
A team to help provide annual funds for The Wright House Wellness Center's HIV Support Group to sustain mental health for HIV+ Austinites.
The Wright House Wellness Center (WHWC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has works to provide resources, support and care to individuals living with or at-risk for HIV/AIDS and/or Hepatitis C in the Austin Area. WHWC’s motto is, “Caring for Mind, Body and Spirit.” One of the most long-standing and dynamic services we offer to uphold this motto is our HIV/AIDS Support Group. This support group has been meeting weekly since at least the mid-1990s. Headed by a licensed counselor and psychotherapist, it is making a difference in the lives of its members and their loved ones, not only as a forum for sharing emotions, ideas and contacts, but also as a means of encouraging members to stay healthy and practice safe
behaviors. Each week 15-20 group members attend, some are newly diagnosed and some have been participating for years for the close-knit community the group provides.
Funding for the Group is no longer provided by federal or state funds and completely relies on private grants and unrestricted gifts. We're looking for help from the community to sustain the vital mental health resource for those living with HIV and AIDS in the greater Austin community.
