Myself (Farah) age 27 years and Billy age 22 years are UK nationals recently arrived in Kenya. We felt the need for our organisation. OHK has not yet been registered as both of us working on raising funds. We hope that we will receive tremendous support in order for us to succeed in our mission.

OUR HOME Kenya (CBO)

REACHING OUT TO THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY

VISION

Empowering the lives of children and vulnerable members of the poorest communities in Kenya.

MISSION

USP: To our knowledge, there are no organizations in Nakuru that focus on wider all inclusive community outreach. In this sense, we aim to develop the community as a whole as our services will not be restricted to the children only but also to families, staff and extended members of the local community.

Our mission is to provide a safe and loving environment to the orphans/ street children of Nakuru slums while assuring educational, vocational and medical facilities to the children and surrounding community.

AIMS:

WE HAVE A SET OF VALUES THAT WE HOPE TO PROMOTE, IMPLEMENT AND MAINTAIN:

- EDUCATION

- MEDICAL

- VOCATIONAL

- CAREER DEVELOPMENT

- EMPOWERMENT

- PROTECTION

- SUSTAINIBILITY

- ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT

- MORALITY

- LOVING AND CARING HOME

- COLLECTIVENESS

Objectives:

Short term (6months – a year)

The short term aim is to have a safe home for children age 5-10 years old from impoverage communities. We intend to commence our project with maximum 10 number of children due to financial restrictions. But, their educational, medical and personal needs shall be fulfilled.

Medium term (1 year – 5 years)

We shall establish our short term aim and progress further by purchasing a land (5-7 acres) in order to protect them from the dangers of slums. We are hoping to be in a position whereby we can obtain an environmentally friendly farm. This will help provide the home with basic food needs along with having a solely self-sustaining project. Part of the farm will be rented out to local farmers at an accessible price and provide them with training in contemporary and traditional farming methods. This way we can extend our helping hand to the wider community and not just to the orphans.

We endeavor to provide members of staff with more than simply financial support. We would like to go an extra mile and introduce various short term training courses for their personal development e.g. cooking diploma, nursing diploma, driving course

We will introduce arts and craft workshops that trains the children to develop traditional/cultural expertise. These workshops will comprise of but not be restricted to bag making, trinkets, jewelry, farming, shoe making, sewing, metal/wood works, painting and repairs (DIY) and art. Most of the items will be sold in order support our self-sustaining project.

In addition, IF we are financially stable after one year then we will invest in a medical unit and a mobile medical unit which will benefit everyone tremendously.

Long term (5 + years)

Our long term vision is to construct our own school that will help generate funds externally and children from within the home will benefit. Fees we receive from the external students will assist the educational needs of the orphans. We would ideally like to use the British curriculum which is internationally acknowledged. Our education structure will be all inclusive and specifically composed of extra tuition classes focusing of additional needs of remedial students.

Once the children end their formal formative years they are provided the opportunity to continue vocational education and gain a trade. Or they are provided further funding and support for further/higher education. The members of community will also be provided with vocational training for their personal development and career building.

Further development of medical unit

AMBITION: To construct and imbed an enterprise that will generate corporate funds for the non-profiting branch. For example, shop selling handmade items by the orphans.
