My Name is Emilio Naktewa. I am a Zuni Pueblo Indian. Although I have never lived there I visit as much as possible and have spent many summers there with my grandma. I have started a musical career, which I enjoy and love very much. It has opened many doors for me and has given me so many opportunities to meet new people, leadership skills and to travel within the South Western United States to perform in front of thousands of people. In the spring of 2011 I auditioned for the Albuquerque Youth Symphony along with 40 - 50 other Bass Players from public, private, perocial and home shools in the greater Albuquerque area. I was among 5 Bass Player chosen. I am the only Bass Player from Rio Rancho High School and the only Native American in the Symphony. This year the AYS has an international trip to Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic where we will have the opportunity to play at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and Haydn Hall at the Esterhazy Palace in Vienna among other historic venues. We will also be receiving instruction from Orchestra Clinicians in the part of the world. This is once in a life time opportunity for me. This is my senior year in high school and I am plan to continue my education in the Fine Art of Music. I am currently in private studies with a New Mexico Composer and a professor of String Bass and Jazz Studies at the University of New Mexico. They will help me prepare for my auditions for admission to a college orchestra. This will begin my new journey to further my experience and career so I can give back to my community. Thank you for your support, Emilio.

We are fundraising for Emilio's trip to Europe. He is a determined young man and has been working hard at his talent. We want to give him the positive support so he can continue to play and be a positive role model to other young Native Americans, especially in his pueblo. There has been a lack of interest in the art of Music in the Pueblo of Zuni. This is one of Emilio's concerns and he has expressed the interest in teaching music to young natives in Zuni and throughout the country in either a school setting or privately to give them same experience and opportunity he has had. We would appreciate your help to get him to his destination in life. Thank you for your support Sheryl Wyaco (Mother) and Joe Baca (Step-Father).
