Eight students from Centaurus High School in Lafayette, Colorado have committed to spending their spring break helping to build a new home for a needy family near Antigua, Guatemala. They will work alongside a local mason and various family members to dig trenches, haul sand, rock and cinderblock, mix and pour concrete, etc. Construcasa homes consist of three rooms and a bathroom with a toilet and shower. They're made of concrete blocks, with a concrete floor and a tin roof. An entire house costs $4000 and takes 2 weeks to complete. All construction materials are purchased locally and the recipient family must repay 35% of the costs. The students will stay with a family in Antigua who will provide them with room and board. They will work Monday-Friday, 6-7 hours each day.
