"Buzz it for Boards" is an annual tradition at Wayne State University School of Medicine where the medical students grow out their locks and collect pledges to shave it all off in the Spring before second year students take their USMLE Step 1 board examinations. This year, we are supporting Camp Casey, which is a nonprofit horseback riding program for pediatric cancer patients. It's located locally in Royal Oak, Michigan. Please visit their website at camp-casey.org to get a better idea of all the joy they bring these children at an otherwise troubled time in their life.

Our team consists of three second year medical students: Jessi Ede, Lazaros Yiannos and Nic Helmstetter. Jessi has been growing her hair out for quite some time with the intention of not only pledging to cut it down but to donate her long locks as well. Laz has had "Buzz it for Boards" in the back of his mind for over a year and is finally glad that the event is near so he can start pledging. Nic got off to a late start in November with his hair but has been gaining ground rapidly with herbal supplements and concentration. Please visit our individual photo galleries (credit: Jess Everett) by clicking on us under the leaderboard above to see some awesome shots of the madness, our campus and just how out of control our hair has gotten! We couldn't be happier to be doing this and are very glad to have found time to make a very small sacrifice for a very big cause. We grew our hair out with the intention of shaving it off. Sadly, with the chemotherapy and radiotherapy that many of these children receive to combat their cancers, the alopecia is a major side effect that they didn't have a choice in. The least we can do is shave ours off as a small gesture and hope that some of you will donate to our cause.

Buzz it for boards is taking place in Margherio Family Conference Center at Wayne State University School of Michigan located on 320 E. Canfield St. Detroit, Michigan at 3:30 p.m. on April 20th. The awesome event is put on by the Class of 2014 Student Senate and they have reserved a great speaker to start off the festivities and a salon to come in and do the buzzing! If you want to donate and can't make it, we'll be uploading the end result to our photo album following the event! Again, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity and please share this page with friends and family that are always willing to help a good cause! Nic, Laz and Jessi
