Bronx Charter School for the Arts (Bronx Arts) is a public elementary school founded on the principle that a rich and vibrant background in the arts is a key component of achieving academic excellence. We strive to serve as a model that encourages creativity and innovation in the classroom and inspires students to develop the intellectual and personal fortitude to realize their dreams.

For 13 years Bronx Arts has served the students of Hunts Point located in the most impoverished congressional district in the country. In this community of significant need, Bronx Arts proves the value of a curriculum infused with the arts, which is substantiated by the following achievements and accolades:

  • ---Last year Bronx Arts’ charter was renewed for the much-coveted full 5-years.
  • ---Bronx Arts outperformed both the City and State on ELA and Math assessments last year.
  • ---Bronx Arts has the distinction of being the #1 performing elementary school in all of School District 8.
  • ---The New York State Department of Education (NYS DOE) has named Bronx Arts as a “Reward School” an honor fewer than 1% of public schools in New York State attain.
  • ---The NYS DOE also awarded Bronx Arts the additional merit of being one of only 10 charter schools statewide to become a High Progress School.

In addition to our rigorous academics, our students have daily arts classes for 90 minutes focusing on the four disciplines we teach: visual arts, music, theater and dance. By the time they reach middle school, they will be as proficient in each of these arts subjects as in their academic subjects.

Ironically, in New York City where Arts programming in public schools is all but non-existent, Bronx Arts has shown that students from disadvantaged communities benefit tremendously from in depth arts engagement and instruction in a way that supports their academic success and teaches them that they have something beautiful and important to add to the world.
