Belize Service Project
A team for TEACHERS FOR A BETTER BELIZE
Help us buy supplies for a primary school in southern Belize
People in the Toledo region of southern Belize have a rich Mayan cultural history. Unfortunately, 40% of children in the region don't finish eighth grade. Supporting children to learn to read and write is one of the best ways we can help.
In July 2015, we will fly from the Bay Area to Belize City then take a four hour bus ride to southern Belize. We will be painting a primary school and stocking the school's library with children's books we collected in our community. This fundraiser will pay for paint ($750), postage to mail the books ($250) and solar panels ($1,500) that a small, local business will install.
Nine students (aged 13 and 14) are traveling this summer with their parents to do this work. Thanks for helping us meet our fundraising goal of $2,500.
(Note that we already have our travel costs covered. The $2,500 is for paint, postage and solar panels.)
