* Every 8 minutes a brain aneurysm ruptures.

* It is estimated that 6 million people in the US have a brain aneurysm.

* As many as 1 in 15 people will develop a brain aneurysm, AVM, or other hemorrhagic stroke.

* 50% of ruptured aneurysm patients will die within minutes. Of the remaining half, 50% will suffer a delayed death and those remaining will usually suffer severe brain deficits.

* Brain aneurysms are most prevalent in people ages 35-60, but can occur in children as well.

* Women, more than men, suffer from brain aneurysms at a ratio of 3:2.

* The average age of an AVM rupture is 17 years old.

The Joe Niekro Foundation is hosting the 1st Annual Phoenix Walkathon for Brain Aneurysm/AVM/Hemorrhagic Stroke Awareness on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Steele and Indian Park! This one mile mile walk will raise funds to support brain aneurysm/AVM/stroke research, projects, and patient support services. This event allows patients and family members affected by these conditions, the opportunity to spread awareness & educate the community, as well as walk in honor or memory of loved ones stricken by these life-threatening conditions.

When: 7:30 a.m. Sunday September 28, 2014

Where: Steele Indian School Park
300 E. Indian School Rd.(3rd Street and Indian School Rd), Phoenix, AZ 85012
