Amigos de las Américas (AMIGOS) hosts programs for young adults to volunteer abroad. AMIGOS' volunteer opportunities focus on youth leadership training and community development in Latin America.

Founded in 1965 and based in Houston, Texas, AMIGOS has 25 chapters throughout the United States and a network of 25,000 alumni. AMIGOS volunteers participate in community service and leadership development training during the school year and then spend the summer with a family in Latin America, leading community development projects. Our programs take place in the United States, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador, Peru, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

Our mission is to inspire and build young leaders through collaborative community development and immersion in cross-cultural experiences. Our vision is a world where each young person becomes a life-long catalyst for social change.

The Houston Chapter of AMIGOS has accepted a class of outstanding volunteer this year. Although each volunteers' family is also investing in the AMIGOS experience by making monthly family contributions, each of the volunteers has a goal of raising an additional $2,500 from project sponsors like you to cover the cost of community development projects in Latin America during the 2013 summer.

The volunteers will engage in community service projects in the Houston area. They will participate in extensive training sessions to prepare them for their community development projects in Latin America, such as how to prepare and deliver lesson plans for children's educational enrichment projects. Other topics include hygiene, environmental conservation, and making contributions in the community.

The volunteers will update their individual web pages when they receive their country assignment, when they are preparing to leave for their summer service, and when they return. They will provide photos of their project results and new friends in Latin America.

The Houston Amigos are eager to develop their leadership skills through community service at home and abroad. Please consider sponsoring their efforts in 2013.
