Time to shake things up at the LA Marathon on March 17!
This St. Patrick's Day at the LA Marathon, I will transform into a Shamrock Shake and attempt to break the Guinness World Record for "Fastest Marathon Run Dressed as a Dairy Product."
To make things a bit more fun, I'll be eating only McDonald's, as well as enjoying a Shamrock Shake every day leading up to the marathon. I can't think of a better way to count down to St. Patrick's Day!
Besides just being a delicious seasonal favorite, the Shamrock Shake has a history of helping others. In 1974, proceeds from Shamrock Shake sales funded the world's first Ronald McDonald House. For more than 30 years, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) has been providing a home-away-from-home for families with seriously ill children.
Like the Shamrock Shake, I am proud of my history with RMHC. In 2011, I completed my" McRunner Challenge" as part of a fundraiser for RMHC of Chicagoland and NW Indiana. The Challenge involved eating only McDonald's food for the 30 days leading up to the LA Marathon. The support and generosity of people across the country helped me raise more than $40,000 for RMHC. And to make things even sweeter, I set a personal best time in LA, running a 2:36:14 (5:57 per mile).
I am excited to return to run the LA Marathon, help families, and with a little luck, set a Guinness World Record!
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
