We are heading to Panama to combat human trafficking by holding a city-wide event to bring the Gospel to the hurting.
This summer (July 29-August 6), we have been given an amazing opportunity to combat human trafficking in Panama City, Panama. Panama City is one of the gateways to human trafficking in Central America. 1 in 5 containers that travel through the Panama Cannel carries trafficked girls in it. Incest is also prevalent in many homes in the city and has become an open door for girls to be easily persuaded into the sex slave industry. Girls literally do not want to go home at the end of the day. Panama City officials want to do everything they can to make the city known for being a safe and life-giving place for these girls to grow up. They have invited missionaries Gerritt and Tara Kenyon to host a conference for thousand of young girls in the city this summer. And they have even opened public schools for the Gospel to be shared in the classrooms because they know the kind of positive difference God’s Word makes in people’s lives (this is not a Christian government). The people are incredibly open and hungry for God’s truth and the true hope found only in Christ.
The ultimate goal of this trip is to change girls' lives in Panama City for the better. The conference we will be putting on is a tool through which we anticipate seeing the power and love of God continue to establish the Kingdom of Heaven to this city and into these girls' lives. It is also to help communicate and spread the word about The Refuge: a working hotel in Panama City, that also serves as a safe refuge (literally) for girls to go where they can feel safe, learn job and life skills, and escape from the pressures of sex trafficking that are so prevelant in Panama City.
The money that our team raises will go towards making it possible to put on a city-wide conference to reach upwards of 10,000 girls in Panama City.
