I'm running my first-ever well~ ANYTHING! If you know me at all you know me as a mommy, an advocate, a daughter, a sister, Aunt, or a friend. No one knows me as a runner! BUT... Come February, I will be running in the Disney Princess half marathon in Disney World! I will Run for Sophia, and to support Girl Power 2 Cure to Cure Rett Syndrome!
Rett Syndrome is a rare and debilitating disorder that mainly affects girls. It interferes with their ability to perform tasks most of us take for granted. Rett Syndrome robber Sophia of her abilities to talk, to walk and run and play. It took away her chance to eat icecream, cake, and all the yummy foods this world has to explore. Rett Syndrome prevents Sophia from expressing herself and moving the way she wants to. However, it doesn't affect her intelligence or her ability to love. She is very affectionate and has a great sense of humor. Her smile can light up a room, and her giggles are contagious! She “speaks” with her eyes, and has a thousand things to say, you just have to listen... She understands everything we say to her, but she struggles so much to communicate back to us.
I are committed to giving Sophia a healthy, loving, rich and happy life. However, there's only so much I can do to shield her from the progression of Rett Syndrome. Sophia suffers from Seizures. She has multiple respitory issues. She has become contracted, and has severe scoliosis. Most recently Sophia was admitted into the ICU, where she remained unconcious of 10 days. Each day was more firghtening then the one beofre. She struggled to breath. Her organs were shutting down. Her brain activity had slowed. All in all, her little body had just gotten "tired." BUT, Against many odds, She pulled thru!! She dug deep down within herself, and found the strength, the will, and the power, to wake up and fight for her life. She is MY hero. She smiles, when other would cry. She laughs, when other would not. She FIGHTS harder to live and enjoy each day then most will do in their lifetime. And THAT is why I am running this 1/2 marathon. I am running for her, beacuse she can't walk. I will be her voice. Her legs. When I get to tired, I will keep going, keep pushing, because that's what she does, everyday. Please consider supporting us in this cause. Every pat on the back, and every dollar counts.
