Welcome to Brooklyn Jubilee’s Year-End Fundraiser! By making a tax-deductible donation, you can help us reach our year-end fundraising goal of $10,000 so that we can continue expanding our free legal advocacy services to Brooklyn residents.

Free legal advice at soup kitchens and food pantries. Our staff attorneys and volunteer lawyers provide free legal advice to hundreds of Brooklyn residents in need at soup kitchens and food pantries every month. We specialize in housing issues, public benefits, and access to food and healthcare. Because Brooklyn Jubilee was already established as a mobile law firm, we responded quickly to the crisis of Hurricane Sandy, and began advising displaced people in the community about their legal rights within days of the storm.

Free legal representation for those at risk. We fight for seniors, mothers and their children, and disabled tenants to prevent evictions, and to maintain basic income supports when they have nowhere else to turn. And when people don’t have enough food to eat, we help them obtain food stamps. We have put an estimated total of $65,000 worth of food every year onto the tables of families in need.

Responding to Hurricane Sandy. Following Hurricane Sandy, staff members Sandhya and Owen sprung into action, holding several legal information sessions for those most severly impacted by the storm, including a NYC evacuation center and a church-based emergency food site. With the help of eager volunteer attorneys, they counseled hundreds of storm victims about their legal rights and how to access important resources for putting their lives back together. In addition, Sandhya and Owen will be able to follow up with individuals whose needs call for further assistance. In partnership with Brooklyn Presbyterian Church Disaster Relief, we are meeting material needs for Sandy’s victims by connecting them to church resources and volunteers.

Our vision. Our vision is to create healthy neighborhoods and bring peace, justice, and prosperity to all of Brooklyn through free, integrated legal, healthcare, and nutrition education services that “protect the rights of the poor and needy.” (Proverbs 31:9) To complement our legal services, we serve a free and healthy community meal at a church soup kitchen every other month. You can read more on our website and blog.

We can only accomplish this with your support. Join us as we help Brooklyn residents in need obtain stable housing, more food, and better health today.
