The Kappa Sigma Fraternity is strongly committed to making a difference in the lives of others, especially those in the United States Armed Forces. It is this commitment that has provided the inspiration and vision for OPERATION: GREATER CAUSE. OPERATION: GREATER CAUSE is a bold Kappa Sigma initiative that will promote volunteerism, citizenship and service to the community. Throughout our country’s history, Americans have felt profound appreciation and gratitude for the dedication and sacrifice of our troops and their families. As always, Kappa Sigma is participating in a tangible way for all of us to say thank you. Each year OPERATION: GREATER CAUSE fulfills its mission of lifting the spirits of America’s troops and their families and touching the lives of thousands of servicemen by doing everything possible to provide a home away from home for our troops and to keep them connected to the families they left behind.
The Kappa Sigma Fraternity is the world’s largest college fraternity, boasting over 300 chapters nationwide and a record-setting 2012 Pledge Class. As an organization founded on the Four Pillars of Fellowship, Leadership, Scholarship, and Service, Kappa Sigma Fraternity is strongly committed to making a difference in the lives of others. It is this commitment that has provided the inspiration and vision for A Greater Cause – our bold initiative to promote volunteerism, citizenship, and service to the community. Our Chapter at The George Washington University organizes an annual philanthropy event with these goals in mind, Operation: Greater Cause, which recruits hundreds of students to participate in events that raise funds and awareness for Fisher House, a local organization that provides free lodging to veterans and military families receiving treatment at military medical centers.
Kappa Sigma's Military Heroes Campaign was designed to honor and aid the thousands of wounded military veterans returning from active duty. The Military Heroes Campaign provides charitable donations to organizations such as the Fisher House and other entities. The Fisher House Foundation, is a segment of the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund that provides free housing to wounded veterans and their families throughout the duration of rehabilitation.
The Fisher House Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides a network of 38 comfort homes on the grounds of military and VA major medical centers. The houses are 5,000 to 16,000 square foot units, with up to 21 suites, donated to the military and Department of Veterans Affairs. The Foundation provides support to families of patients receiving care at the nearby medical center.
