Join me in raising money for Mass Mentoring! This organization trains and supports over 200 mentoring organizations across the state!
I am really excited to be running the Boston Marathon this spring and I'm thrilled to be supporting a charity like Mass Mentoring. For those of you who know me well, know that running has not always been a passion of mine – in fact, my high school soccer coach always commented on how often I walked on the field during games! I started jogging a few years ago to “stay fit” and crossed over from absolutely hating every second of my runs, to loving them! I have challenged myself with a variety of races, and have completed several half marathons. What’s next you ask? The full 26.2 mile challenge…and what better stage than one of the most famous races in the country! I’m pumped!
Why Mass Mentoring? When selecting a charity to run for, I thought a great deal about what kind of organization I would like to support and put my name behind. I decided I wanted to run for a group that supports youth and families, and Mass Mentoring jumped out at me. I spend at least 40 hours each week with over 500 great kids at the Healey School in Somerville, where I work as the Afterschool Coordinator. These kids come from a variety of different backgrounds, and I have had the pleasure of watching them grow over the years. One of the things that has proven to make a positive impact on these young lives is the relationships they have developed with the faculty, staff, and volunteers at the school. With school being one point of consistency in their ever-changing lives, these relationships provide a sense of safety and security for many of these young people. Mass Mentoring provides resources to organizations that support our students, and train people to serve these kids in a way that benefits both mentor and mentee.
Please consider supporting this great organization, and help me reach my goal! AND, hope to see you out there on race day!!!
