GlobeMed at Truman partners with Maison de Naissance in Haiti to provide high-quality prenatal and newborn health care free of charge.

Who We Are // GlobeMed at Truman State University

GlobeMed at Truman State University has been working with Maison de Naissance, a birthing clinic in Torbeck, Haiti, since 2006. Our partnership has allowed us to assist Maison de Naissance in their goal of providing high-quality maternal care to the local community, free of charge.

Our Partner // Maison de Naissance

The Maison de Naissance Foundation is a nonprofit maternal health organization based in Kansas City, Missouri. In 2004, the foundation established a birthing center in Torbeck, Haiti called Maison de Naissance, meaning “house of birth” in French. By offering the services of a modern maternity center, they provide impoverished women and children in rural southwestern Haiti with access to the care they need through a culturally appropriate and friendly birthing home. Maison de Naissance has managed to reduce the neonatal mortality rate in the area by up to 75% and currently employs over thirty Haitian staff members. The Maison de Naissance birthing clinic has increase prenatal cared received to expecting mothers to 99% in their area and has not lost a single mother in their 4,500 births. Since 2006, GlobeMed at Truman State has raised over $58,000 for Maison de Naissance’s projects in Haiti.

Our Project // $10,000 for Well-Baby Care Vaccination Program in Haiti

The Truman State University chapter of GlobeMed is aiming to raise $10,000 in order to provide infant vaccinations for newborns born at Maison de Naissance, a free birthing clinic in rural Haiti.

Our Well-baby Care Vaccination Program aims to wipe out preventative diseases on the Torbeck Plain in Haiti. GlobeMed at Truman State University is partnering with Maison de Naissance to make high quality vaccines accessible to every family in MN's immediate zone of service. The program vaccinates all mothers and children against diphtheria, tetanus, polio, German measles, and rubella. These vaccines have the incredible potential to establish herd immunity, or the percentage of a population that must be immune to prevent spread of a contagion in a community. Along with the vaccines, the Well-baby Care Vaccination Program prevents childhood disease through consistent checkups.
