Provides financial support to Sullivan's Island Elementary School.

Friends of Sullivan's Island School was formed to provide financial support to Sullivan's Island Elementary School in the areas of teacher salaries, instructional and educational supplies. Each school in the Charleston County School District receives a mandated amount of funding based on certain strict formulas; however, that allocation does not meet the needs of our students. Friends has helped bridge the gap between being a good school and a great school by providing funds to: -maintain smaller class sizes -lower overall student-to-teacher ratios -offer a rigorous and innovative curriculum -hire, retain and develop highly skilled faculty and professional staff, ensuring more special area teachers for foreign language, science, arts, music and computer technology. Specifically, Friends provides funding for computer and foreign language instruction (Spanish), as well as a Certified Art Teacher. We anticipate needing in excess of $100,000 to fund these teachers for the 2015-2016 school year. in addition to teachers salaries, this years fundraising goal of $150,000 is to include continuing education for teachers, classroom supplies, additional playground improvements, a boardwalk to the beach, and other important programs to benefit every student at SIES.
