Gifts to Eastern Senior High School via the DC Public Education Fund will build a culture of Excellence, Scholarship, Honor, and Service.
Founded in 1890, Eastern Senior High School (ESHS) provides engaging, college preparatory coursework and extra-curricular learning experiences that ensure all students graduate with the content knowledge, character, and confidence to serve as innovative, inclusive global leaders. Known for generations as “The Pride of Capitol Hill,” Eastern boasts a rich history of nationally recognized athletic teams and programs in the arts. While our turnaround effort will focus on providing the rigorous curriculum required for college and career success, we will continue the practice of developing well rounded scholars through a wide array of enrichment opportunities during and beyond the regular school day.
Eastern will enroll a ninth grade only in the fall of 2011, growing by one grade each year in order to strategically design a challenging and individualized experience for every student. The 300 students in the Class of 2015, with support from exemplary teachers and a diverse set of community partners, will build upon rich traditions and set a course of excellence on our newly restored, state-of-the-art campus. Eastern is a neighborhood high school and does not require an application for admission. We are proud to enroll students at all levels of academic preparation and accelerate their progress.
Gifts to Eastern High School via the DC Public Education Fund will be used for a variety of causes including a summer bridge program for entering freshmen, after-school and Saturday academic support, books and materials to supplement and enrich classroom instruction, family and community events, extra-curricular activities, educational field trips, and other critical elements to building a culture of Excellence, Scholarship, Honor, and Service.
