Team Running for Cover is running the 2013 Boston Marathon to raise funds to support MFNE's mission of education, prevention and support.

As a melanoma survivor, I would like combine my two passions- running and spreading awareness in the fight against melanoma. I received my melanoma diagnosis in June 2008. I had been educated on Melanoma for years. However, I never dreamed I would become a victim of this silent killer. In the Spring of 2008, I noticed a "new" mole on my back. My husband, a physician, referred me to a dermatology colleague for evaluation. I remember clearly her words that day, "Angela, I doubt this mole is malignant, but I do want to biopsy just in case." I am so thankful she did. It was by the grace of God, my melanoma was caught early. Today, I am blessed to be alive and well.

As a result of my diagnosis, I examined my life goals and priorities. I made several life changes, one of which was running. I had always been an "occasional" runner. I enjoyed running but had never been committed enough to train and complete races. I set a goal to complete a marathon in the next few years. I found a running partner, Megan Gezen, and we started training for our first marathon in 2009. Since 2009, we have completed numerous half-marathons and five marathons. I am happy that Megan is also joining me in the 2013 Boston Marathon Team Running for Cover.

I am running for the Melanoma Foundation as a Melanoma Survivor. My body is scarred from the numerous biopsies over the last 4 years. However, I view them as a reminder of the gift that I have been given to LIVE another day. When I run, I am thankful to be ALIVE. I run in honor of those who were not as fortunate as myself. I will also run for my three children who inspire me everyday.

I would greatly appreciate your kind consideration by making a donation towards my goal. Since it's inception in 2006, Running for Cover has raised over $1 million to support MFNE. I am thrilled to be selected to be a part of this team for the 2013 Boston Marathon.

Help me cross the finish line by donating to my fundraising efforts. Early detection saved my life, with your generosity we can save so many others! Together we can help reduce the incidence of Melanoma!!!!
