In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate bridge, Artseed invites people of all ages and skill levels to test their creative art-making endurance at its exciting 2012 Fourth Annual Earth Week Art-a-thon. With every hour spent making art, participants will raise funds to support ArtSeed’s education programs. Art-a-thoners are welcome to come any time and stay for any duration during those hours. Participants may work on their own projects or take advantage of the expert guidance and supplies provided. Throughout the day there will be live music, food, and Skype connections to satellite Art-athon events in private homes in the Bay Area, New York City, and various other cities.
Participants are asked to register and collect pledges for each hour they create art. Pledges of any amount are welcome. A $15 registration donation is suggested to help offset the cost of supplies and refreshments. To register, email Josefa Vaughan josefa@artseed.org or visit ArtSeed’s website http://www.artseed.org/ for details and updates. A celebration with prizes will close the day’s display of work,7-8 pm. Funds raised will support scholarships for Bayview Hunters Point youth and other disadvantaged youngsters to participate in ArtSeed’s year-round Apprenticeship Program and the Summer Fine Arts Intensive, Monday, July 9 – Friday, July 13, 2012.
Selections of Art-a-thon-produced work will be exhibited the following weekend, 11am-6pm Saturday April 28 and Sunday April 29 at ArtSeed’s Spring Open Studio # 2513 in Building 101 at the Hunters Point Shipyard and at ArtSeed’s year-end exhibition: ArtSeed and the Golden Gate: 75 Reasons Why We Are The Bridge! Opening Thursday, July 5, 5-7pm with a closing reception on Sunday, July 29, 3-5pm. Galleries are at the Thoreau Center for Sustainability, The Presidio, San Francisco.
