Alexandria Area Community Foundation

Providing a way for donors to give back to nonprofits in our community.
The Alexandria Area Community Foundation (AACF) is an endowment fund formed in 1992 by a group of forward-thinking, charitable-minded members of our community who had a vision and a plan to implement that vision. The AACF is affiliated with the Minnesota Community Foundation, which invests and manages our funds. We accept contributions from individuals, businesses, industry and other donors. We make funds available to local nonprofit organizations through an annual grant process in June and July of each year to fulfill community needs. Since its inception, AACF has awarded a total of $185,585 to 49 different area nonprofit organizations. AACF’s focus areas are nonprofit organizations with programs that:
  • Benefit members of our community including children, families, individuals with special needs and seniors
  • Promote volunteer participation and citizen involvement
  • Address emerging and changing needs of our community
  • Encourage more effective use of community resources
  • Enable tax exempt organizations to reduce costs and increase efficiency
  • AACF impacts our community and people in many positive ways resulting in very inspiring accomplishments:

Let's Go Fishing was able to serve 1,086 seniors or disabled guests in 2009. They had 91 volunteers who spent 1,266 hours fishing with seniors and disabled people on the pontoons this summer. In 2008 they were able to serve 800 guests.

The Windmill Project is grateful for AACF’s support in their efforts to serve families of children with disabilities, using this year’s award to reach out to grandparents. When grandparents are equipped to offer effective support, their grandchildren will benefit. Preparing another generation will add strength and stability to their families and have a positive impact on the Alexandria community.

Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County will purchase additional scaffolding and first aid kits, and train key volunteers in first aid and CPR. With AACF’s support Habitat for Humanity will be able to increase the safety of their volunteer experience at the construction site. This is significant for their 96 volunteers who contribute approximately 2,323 volunteer hours for each Habitat home. In the last fiscal year, 447 volunteers contributed 11,794 reported volunteer hours.

How to Support Alexandria Area Community Foundation AACF accepts monetary donations of any amount. AACF is also able to accept donations of stocks or bonds, life insurance, real estate (including reservation of a life estate), charitable remainder trusts and charitable lead trusts, bequests, agency endowments, and project/pass-through gifts. AACF qualifies as a public charity under federal tax laws, and all gifts are tax-deductible under the Internal Revenue Code. (Consult your tax advisor to find out how this may affect you.)
