Alexandria Area Community Foundation
A project of Minnesota Community Foundation
Let's Go Fishing was able to serve 1,086 seniors or disabled guests in 2009. They had 91 volunteers who spent 1,266 hours fishing with seniors and disabled people on the pontoons this summer. In 2008 they were able to serve 800 guests.
The Windmill Project is grateful for AACF’s support in their efforts to serve families of children with disabilities, using this year’s award to reach out to grandparents. When grandparents are equipped to offer effective support, their grandchildren will benefit. Preparing another generation will add strength and stability to their families and have a positive impact on the Alexandria community.
Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County will purchase additional scaffolding and first aid kits, and train key volunteers in first aid and CPR. With AACF’s support Habitat for Humanity will be able to increase the safety of their volunteer experience at the construction site. This is significant for their 96 volunteers who contribute approximately 2,323 volunteer hours for each Habitat home. In the last fiscal year, 447 volunteers contributed 11,794 reported volunteer hours.
