THE COVERED BRIDGE ENDOWMENT FUND, created to preserve, protect, and promote Minnesota's only remaining orignal covered bridge.
"The covered bridge located in Zumbrota, MN has been selected by the committee of the American Building Survey as possessing exceptional historical and architectural interest, and is worthy of most careful preservation for future generations."....U.S.Department of the Interior. This bridge, built in 1869, has a dynamic and resilient history. After spanning the Zumbro River until 1932, at replacement time, local citizens raised the funds to move the bridge to the Goodhue County Fairgrounds in order to prevent demolition. The bridge resided there until 1971 when it was moved to the Covered Bridge Park in a landlocked position. In 1997 it was moved to its present location, once again spanning the Zumbro River only 100 yards from its original site. Each move has been citizen funded. The goal of the COVERED BRIDGE ENDOWMENT FUND is to create a fund balance large enough so the earned interest will be sufficient to preserve and promote the Zumbrota Covered Bridge in perpetuity. The interest will be used to provide top-notch care for the bridge, including all major upkeep projects, electronic security and landscaping needs among other things. Our desire is to make certain that the bridge will not only be preserved, but that it will be appreciated as a historical jewel by visitors who might otherwise not even know it exists.
