Restoring the natural and social benefits of a healthy watershed through education and collaboration.
The Zumbro Watershed Partnership (ZWP) is a group of citizens from six counties working to restore and preserve the Zumbro River. The Zumbro is a tremendous resource for both people and wildlife in southeastern Minnesota but it desperately needs our attention. Currently, major segments of the Zumbro River are severely polluted by chemicals, human and animal waste, pharmaceuticals, and sediment. The ZWP is working to restore these impaired waters and protect those that are healthy. Our work ranges from creatively informing citizens about the importance of keeping our rivers and streams clean, to upstream projects that reduce pollutants at the source, to water quality monitoring. Restoring our waters benefits fish, wildlife and people here where we live. It also reduces pollutants that the Zumbro River supplies to the Mississippi River and to the Gulf of Mexico “dead zone.”
