I am running the 2013 Boston Marathon on behalf of the Michael Carter Lisnow.
Why am I running the Boston Marathon on behalf of the Michael Carter Lisnow Respite Centre?
I started running for the first time just over 9 months ago to become a healthier parent for my son Dylan and my daughter Soraya. My commitment to running over the last nine months started out big with a half marathon and grew to accomplishing a life goal by completing the Sydney marathon last September.
I have never dreamt of running the Boston marathon, nor has this crossed my mind until September last year when my lovely wife Skye and son Dylan encouraged me to do so. With one marathon under my belt I have decided to run my second one to not only fulfil a dream but to also give back to a community and help out a deserving organzation in the process.
The Respite Centre provides so many wonderful services to families with loved ones who have disabilities. The Centre provides overnight respite stays so families can take short breaks from caring for their loved ones, provides hourly care so parents can attend doctor appointments or go shopping without having to bring their loved one with them. The centre also provides day care infants/toddlers, after school care for kids, school vacation camps, adult day programs as well as disability awareness programs for local Elementary Schools.
As a father of two small children I know how important finding good care for my children is. To find a place and people you trust is a number one priority. You hope care that treats your child with respect, gives them skills they need to succeed in life and provide them with a fun/safe environment to enjoywhile they are away from you. Every parent wants the best for their children and the Respite Centre is this place for families who have loved ones with disabilities.
Not every family who needs the Respite Centre's service can afford to do so on a daily basis. By raising money for this organization together we can provide respite care/services to multiple families who really need it.
Please follow the link below and watch the respite centre's story. It is incredibly moving and touched my heart the first time I watched it. After watching it you will understand why I am running on behalf of this tremendous organization.
Why you should consider donating to the Michael Carter Respite Centre?
The money raised contributes 100% to scholarships supporting families who are unable to cover the costs associated with assisted care. Your contribution directly impacts families in need by giving them the opportunity to send their disabled child/family member to a safe and loving place while they are away from them. Please know any contribution you make big or small will directly help a family in need of special care.
Thank you in advance for your contribution. I really appreciate it and I know the Respite Centre does as well.
I look forward to crossing the finish line on April 15th, not only for my personal reward, but in knowing we have raised enough money to make a difference in the lives of many deserving children and young adults.
Please forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too. Thank You!!
