Thank you for showing interest in Green Gecko. You can read more about it below. I hope you will join me in supporting Green Gecko.
I want to tell you about Green Gecko, an organization which I care a lot about. Green Gecko helps kids my age who used to beg on the streets in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The 70+ kids are now given food, shelter and education. And in addition to those things that we take for granted, they also receive love, care and safety. The staff at Green Gecko treat these kids like they are their own children. I choose to work with Green Gecko for many reasons. One of the values that really defines this organization is that the kids are cared for now and also they are preparing them for their future. The best way to sum up the importance of Green Gecko is that it is a place “where kids can be kids and dreams can come true”.
This year I visited Green Gecko in Cambodia. I was struck by how confident and happy the kids were. Being at Green Gecko gave me the chance to see the kids in their daily life. It was very familiar to me in the sense that they talked about school, worried about exams and had fun. I had to remind myself that these kids used to beg on the streets for their survival. I now think of these faces and buildings when I fundraise for Green Gecko.
We also had the opportunity to join the kids on one of their community service projects. We rebuilt two houses in an area damaged by recent floods. This was really special because these kids used to be living on the streets and now they are helping others who are even less fortunate. While I was there, I developed a stronger connection with the organization and the Gecko kids.
For the past two years, I have lead a group of students at my school in fundraising activities to support Green Gecko. We sell Green Gecko products, put on bake sales and spread awareness about Green Gecko. I will be making a donation to Green Gecko from my Bar Mitzvah gifts and plan on helping to support the kids for years to come. I hope that you will be inspired to join me and help give these kids a better future by making a donation.
