Strive to new Heights!

Youth Sports Alliance promotes good sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles through participation, education, and competition.

YSA supports winter sports activities for youth in Summit and Wasatch counties, promoting good sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles through participation, education, and competition. Our children learn about commitment and hard work, as well as sportsmanship and respect. Get Out & Play gives local youth a chance to try a new sport and have some fun. Sometimes, a youth finds a new passion!

Last year, Lindsey Woodbury, a local elementary school student signed up for Get Out & Play Ice. The final class of her five-week session was focused on learning to speedskate. She’s been hooked ever since. This 11–year-old now practices at the Utah Oval three times per week with Olympians, Derek Parra and Catherine Raney Norman, and also trains at the Park City Ice Arena. She dreams of standing atop the podium at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Korea. Lindsey would have never "dared to dream" without the opportunity from Get Out & Play!

Whether recreational participants - trying a sport on snow or ice for the first time or just getting out to play in our winter wonderland - or elite athletes aspiring to be world-class competitors, involvement in sports programs builds character in a positive, structured environment.

The Alliance encourages athletes to embrace the following core values of SPORT: Sportsmanship, Perseverance, Optimism, Respect, and Teamwork.

Sportsmanship: Abide by the rules of your sport, respect your opponents, and conduct yourself in such a manner that others will admire your attitude, no matter whether you win or lose.

Perseverance: Sports will challenge you mentally and physically. Learn to give 100% despite difficulties and setbacks. “Never, never, never give up.”

Optimism: Sport is a journey. Learn to enjoy the practice and preparation as much as you do the end result. With the right outlook, you can enjoy striving to reach your goals and also continue to be involved in your sport throughout your life.

Respect: Always show respect for yourself, your teammates, your coaches, and your opponents. Also admire and honor the history and traditions of your sport.

Teamwork: Work together toward a common goal. Put the team ahead of yourself. A single snowflake seems so fragile, but look what they can do when they stick together!

The Alliance supports 13 member teams, the Get Out & Play elementary school program, and scholarships for junior athletes. Through these programs, we touch the lives of over 2,000 youth. The supported programs range from "learn to" programs, that keep kids active through winter sports, to teenagers aspiring to Olympic or National Team status, and NCAA Competition.

We award more than 200 scholarships each year. Through our programs and scholarships all local children are offered the chance to participate in winter sports and learn
the true meaning of SPORT.
